چکیده

Identifying migratory pathways and linking nesting sites to foraging areas is essential for effective conservation management of species, such as marine turtles. Post-nesting turtles disperse from their multiple located a few hundreds kilometers away. Over six-year period 16 female green (Chelonia mydas) were equipped with satellite transmitters between October December five seasons determine routes area at contiguous beaches Ras Baridi, Saudi Arabia, areas. All these in shallow coastal or around offshore islands within the Red Sea basin. The majority ( n = 12) migrated through (<200 m) water along margin reach North 4) South site. Sun Compass Orientation by Juvenile Green Sea Turtles (Chelonia mydas)

– Juvenile green turtles occupy home ranges on shallow reefs that parallel the southeastern coast of Florida. When disturbed, the turtles often flee eastward toward deeper water. We captured turtles at night and recorded their orientation during the next 2 days while they swam tethered inside a large circular outdoor pool and were exposed to the sun. The turtles from 2 reef sites were significa...

Migrations of Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) between Nesting and Foraging Grounds across the Coral Sea

Marine megafauna tend to migrate vast distances, often crossing national borders and pose a significant challenge to managers. This challenge is particularly acute in the Pacific, which contains numerous small island nations and thousands of kilometers of continental margins. The green sea turtle, Chelonia mydas, is one such megafauna that is endangered in Pacific waters due to the overexploita...

Evaluation of hematological and plasma biochemical parameters in green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas Linnaeus, 1758) from nesting colonies of the northern coast the Sea of Oman

The green turtle (Chelonia mydas) has been a species of global concern for decades. As an attempt to study health status of nesting green turtles, Blood biochemistry and hematological values were obtained from 18 clinically normal, nesting female green sea turtles on the northern coast of the sea of Oman. Mean curved carapace length (CCL) was 111±4 cm with a range of 103—122 cm. Barnacles were ...

Molecular epidemiology and pathology of spirorchiid infection in green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas)

Spirorchiid blood fluke infections affect endangered turtle populations globally, and are reported as a common cause of mortality in Queensland green sea turtles. Both the flukes and their ova are pathogenic and can contribute to the stranding or death of their host. Of particular interest are ova-associated brain lesions, which have been associated with host neurological deficits. Accurate est...

Testing dispersal hypotheses in foraging green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) of Brazil.

Testing theories of dispersal is challenging in highly migratory species. In sea turtles, population size, geographic distance, natal homing, and ocean currents are hypothesized to affect dispersal. Little is known, however, about these mechanisms in sea turtles foraging along the South American coast. Green sea turtles feeding at Ubatuba (UB, n = 114) and Almofala (AF, n = 117), Brazil, were s...
